THEY POINT TO ME

Genesis 38

  1. Going Down

The Lion of the Tribe of Judah

Judah left his brothers and went downto stay with a man of Adullam named Hirah. 2 There Judah met the daughter of a Canaanite man named Shua. Vs 1-2

“Jonah was afraid to go and ran away from the Lord. He went downto the seacoast, to the port of Joppa, where he found a ship leaving for Tarshish. He bought a ticket, went on board, and climbed downinto the dark hold of the ship to hide there from the Lord. Jonah 1:2-3

“I sank downinto the floods of waters and was covered by your wild and stormy waves. Jonah 2: 2-3

“When I had lost all hope, I turned my thoughts once more to the Lord.

9 “I will never worship anyone but you! For how can I thank you enough for all you have done? For my deliverance comes from the Lord alone.” 10 And the Lord ordered the fish to spit up Jonah on the beach, and it did. Jonah 2

When Judah saw her, he thought she was a prostitute, for she had covered her face. 16 Not realizing that she was his daughter-in-law, he went over to her by the roadside and said, “Come now, let me sleep with you.”

  1. The Scarlet Thread.

When the time came for her to give birth, there were twin boys in her womb. 28 As she was giving birth, one of them put out his hand; so the midwife took a scarlet thread and tied it on his wrist and said, “This one came out first.” Vs 27-28

Now the men had said to her, “This oath you made us swear will not be binding on us 18 unless, when we enter the land, you have tied this scarlet cord in the window through which you let us down, and unless you have brought your father and mother, your brothers and all your family into your house. Joshua 2:17-18

“Come now, let us settle the matter,” says the Lord. “Though your sins are like scarlet, they shall be as white as snow; though they are red as crimson, they shall be like wool. Isaiah 1:18

III.  A Great Redeemer

Abraham was the father of Isaac. Isaac was the father of Jacob. Jacob was the father of Judah and his brothers. 3 Judah was the father of Perez and Zerah (whose mother was Tamar). Matthew 1

Salmon was the father of Boaz (whose mother was Rahab). Boaz was the father of Obed (whose mother was Ruth). Obed was the father of Jesse. 6 Jesse was the father of King David. David was the father of Solomon (whose mother was Bathsheba, the widow of Uriah). Matthew 1

“Joseph, son of David,” the angel said, “do not be afraid to take Mary as your wife. For the child within her was conceived by the Holy Spirit. 21 And she will have a son, and you are to name him Jesus, for he will save his people from their sins.” Matthew 1:20-21

“Christ Jesus came into the world to save sinners”—and I am the worst of them all. 16 But God had mercy on me so that Christ Jesus could use me as a prime example of his great patience with even the worst sinners. Then others will realize that they, too, can believe in him and receive eternal life. I Tim 1:15

The Lord isn’t slow about keeping his promises, as some people think he is. In fact, God is patient, because he wants everyone to turn from sin and no one to be lost. II Peter 3:9
