Power of Prayer-Part 2

July 28, 2019 Speaker: Ron Sebesta Series: Sunday Sermons

Topic: Prayer

LORD TEACH US TO PRAY

  1. Our Father

Praise the Lord, all you servants of the Lord
who minister by night in the house of the Lord.
Lift up your hands in the sanctuary
    and praise the Lord.

May the Lord bless you from Zion,
he who is the Maker of heaven and earth. Psalm 134

Jesus said to them, “My Father is always at his work to this very day, and I too am working.” 18 For this reason they tried all the more to kill him; not only was he breaking the Sabbath, but he was even calling God his own Father, making himself equal with God. John 5

Jesus said, "Do not hold on to me, for I have not yet ascended to the Father. Go instead to my brothers and tell them, 'I am ascending to my Father and your Father, to my God and your God.” John 20:17

When the set time had fully come, God sent his Son, born of a woman, born under the law, 5 to redeem those under the law, that we might receive adoption to sonship. 6 Because you are his sons, God sent the Spirit of his Son into our hearts, the Spirit who calls out, “Abba, Father.” 7 So you are no longer a slave, but God’s child; and since you are his child, God has made you also an heir. Galatians 4

Matthew 6 When you pray, go into your room, close the door and pray to your Father, who is unseen. Then your Father, who sees what is done in secret, will reward you.

Jesus said, “As I have loved you, so you must love one another.  By this all men will know that you are my disciples” John 13:34-35

“Be devoted to one another in brotherly love. Honor one another above yourselves” Romans 12:10

“Live in harmony with one another” Romans 12:16

“Stop passing judgment on one another” Romans 14:13

“Accept one another, then, just as Christ accepted you” Romans 15:7

“Instruct one another” Romans 15:14

“Agree with one another so that there may be no divisions among you” 1 Cor 1:10

“Serve one another in love” Galatians 5:13

For this reason, I kneel before the Father, 15 from whom every family in heaven and on earth derives its name. 16 I pray that out of his glorious riches he may strengthen you with power through his Spirit Ephesians 3

  1. God is Good

For You, Lord, are good, and ready to forgive, And abundant in lovingkindness to all who call upon You. Psalm 86:5

Praise the LORD! Oh give thanks to the LORD, for He is good; For His lovingkindness is everlasting. Psalm 106:1

Let no one say when he is tempted, “I am being tempted by God,” for God cannot be tempted with evil, and he himself tempts no one. James 1:13

17 Every good and perfect gift is from above, coming down from the Father of the heavenly lights, who does not change like shifting shadows. James 1:17

III. Another Father

Jesus said to them, “If God were your Father, you would love me, for I have come here from God. I have not come on my own; God sent me. 43 Why is my language not clear to you? Because you are unable to hear what I say. 44 You belong to your father, the devil, and you want to carry out your father’s desires. He was a murderer from the beginning, not holding to the truth, for there is no truth in him. When he lies, he speaks his native language, for he is a liar and the father of lies. 45 Yet because I tell the truth, you do not believe me! John 8

And the great dragon was thrown down, that ancient serpent, who is called the devil and Satan, the deceiver of the whole world—he was thrown down to the earth, and his angels were thrown down with him. Revelation 12

  1. Who art in Heaven.

In the year of King Uzziah's death I saw the Lord sitting on a throne, lofty and exalted, with the train of His robe filling the temple.  Isaiah 6:1

This is what the LORD says: "Heaven is my throne, and the earth is my footstool. Where is the house you will build for me? Where will my resting place be? Isaiah 66

  1. Hallowed be thy name

Sing the praises of the LORD, you his faithful people; praise his holy name. Psalm 30:4

I will exalt you, my God and King, and praise your name forever and ever. 2  I will praise you every day; yes, I will praise you forever. 3  Great is the Lord! He is most worthy of praise! Psalm 145
