BUT GOD

BUT GOD!

And you were dead in the trespasses and sins 2 in which you once walked, following the course of this world, following the prince of the power of the air, the spirit that is now at work in the sons of disobedience— 3 among whom we all once lived in the passions of our flesh, carrying out the desires of the body[a] and the mind, and were by nature children of wrath, like the rest of mankind. 4 But God, being rich in mercy, because of the great love with which he loved us, 5 even when we were dead in our trespasses, made us alive together with Christ—by grace you have been saved— 6 and raised us up with him and seated us with him in the heavenly places in Christ Jesus, 7 so that in the coming ages he might show the immeasurable riches of his grace in kindness toward us in Christ Jesus. 8 For by grace you have been saved through faith. And this is not your own doing; it is the gift of God, 9 not a result of works, so that no one may boast. 10 For we are his workmanship, created in Christ Jesus for good works, which God prepared beforehand, that we should walk in them. Ephesians 2

  1. WE WERE DEAD

As for you, you were dead in your transgressions and sins, Vs 1

For this reason it says, "Awake, sleeper, And arise from the dead, And Christ will shine on you." Ephesians 5:14

You were dead because of your sins and because your sinful nature was not yet cut away. Then God made you alive with Christ, for he forgave all our sins.Colossians 2:13

  1. WE ARE ALIVE

And you hath he quickened, who were dead in trespasses and sins; Vs 1

But God, being rich in mercy, because of the great love with which he loved us, 5 even when we were dead in our trespasses, made us alive together with Christ. Vs 4-5

For just as the Father raises the dead and gives them life, even so the Son gives life to whom he is pleased to give it. John 5:21

But God showed his great love for us by sending Christ to die for us while we were still sinners. Romans 5:8

An hour is coming, and is now here, when the dead will hear the voice of the Son of God, and those who hear will live. John 5:25

III. WE ANTICIPATE (We eagerly await.)

He has seated us with him in the heavenly places in Christ Jesus, 7 so that in the coming ages he might show the immeasurable riches of his grace in kindness toward us in Christ Jesus Vs 6-7

God has shown us undeserved grace by coming to save all people. 12 He taught us to give up our wicked ways and our worldly desires and to live decent and honest lives in this world. 13 We are filled with hope, as we wait for the glorious return of our great God and Savior Jesus Christ. 14 He gave himself to rescue us from everything evil and to make our hearts pure.Titus 2:13

And it shall be said in that day, Lo, this is our God; we have waited for him,and he will save us: this is the LORD; we have waited for him, we will be glad and rejoice in his salvation. Isaiah 25:9

  1. WE ARE AWARE

For we are his workmanship Vs 10

The LORD will complete what his purpose is for me. LORD, your gracious love is eternal; do not abandon your personal work in me. Psalm 138:8

God is the one who began this good work in you, and I am certain that he won't stop before it is complete on the day that Christ Jesus returns.  Philippians 1:6

  1. WE HAVE BEEN APPOINTED

created in Christ Jesus for good works, Vs 10

Now there was at Joppa a certain disciple named Tabitha, which by interpretation is called Dorcas: this woman was full of good works and alms deeds which she did. Acts 9:36

“As I was on my way and drew near to Damascus, about noon a great light from heaven suddenly shone around me.7 And I fell to the ground and heard a voice saying to me, ‘Saul, Saul, why are you persecuting me?’ 8 And I answered, ‘Who are you, Lord?’ And he said to me, ‘I am Jesus of Nazareth, whom you are persecuting.’ 9 Now those who were with me saw the light but did not understand the voice of the one who was speaking to me. 10 And I said, ‘What shall I do, Lord?’ And the Lord said to me, ‘Rise, and go into Damascus, and there you will be told all that is appointed for you to do.’ Acts 22
