THANKSGIVING

 

 

They also complained to Moses, "Wasn't there enough room in Egypt to bury us? Is that why you brought us out here to die in the desert? Why did you bring us out of Egypt anyway? Exodus 14:11

 

So the people grumbled against Moses, saying, “What are we to drink?” Exodus 15:24

 

On the fifteenth day of the second month after they had left the land of Egypt, the whole congregation of Israel set out from Elim and came to the Desert of Sin, a which is between Elim and Sinai. 2 And there in the desert they all grumbled against Moses and Aaron. 3 “If only we had died by the LORD’s hand in the land of Egypt!” they said. “There we sat by pots of meat and ate our fill of bread, but you have brought us into this desert to starve this whole assembly to death!” Exodus 16

 

PSALM 107

 

  1. Some wandered in desert wastelands finding no way to a city where they could settle. Vs 4

 

Then they cried out to the Lord in their trouble, and he delivered them from their distress. Vs 6

 

He led them by a straight way to a city where they could settle. Vs 7

 

God settles the lonely in families; He leads the prisoners out to prosperity, but the rebellious dwell in a sun-scorched land. Psalm 68:6

 

Rescue me from my enemies, Lord, for I hide myself in you. 10 Teach me to do your will, for you are my God; may your good Spirit lead me on level ground. Psalm 143

 

Let them give thanks to the Lord for his unfailing love and his wonderful deeds for mankind, Vs 8

 

  1. Some sat in darkness, in utter darkness, prisoners suffering in iron chains, because they rebelled against God’s commands. Vs 10-11

 

Then they cried to the Lord in their trouble, and he saved them from their distress. Vs 13

 

He brought them out of darkness, the utter darkness, and broke away their chains. Vs 14

 

If people are bound in chains, held fast by cords of affliction, 9 he tells them what they have done—that they have sinned arrogantly. 10 He makes them listen to correction and commands them to repent of their evil. 11  If they obey and serve him, they will spend the rest of their days in prosperity. Job 36:8

 

A wicked man's iniquities will trap him; he will become tangled in the ropes of his own sin. Proverbs 5:22

 

Sinners are trapped and caught by their own evil deeds.

 

The people living in darkness have seen a great light; on those living in the land of the shadow of death a light has dawned.”  Matthew 4:16

 

Let them give thanks to the Lord for his unfailing love and his wonderful deeds for mankind, Vs 15

 

III. Some became fools through their rebellious ways and suffered affliction because of their iniquities.

 

Then they cried to the Lord in their trouble, and he saved them from their distress. Vs 19

 

He sent out his word and healed them; he rescued them from the grave. Vs 20

 

The centurion replied, "Lord, I do not deserve to have you come under my roof. But just say the word, and my servant will be healed. Matthew 8:8

 

Let them give thanks to the Lord for his unfailing love and his wonderful deeds for mankind. Vs 21

 

IN PRISONSpeak to one another with psalms, hymns, and spiritual songs. Sing and make music in your hearts to the Lord, 20 always giving thanks to God the Fatherfor everything in the name of our Lord Jesus Christ. Ephesians 5

 

Yes, they knew God, but they wouldn’t worship him as God or even give him thanks. Romans 1:21

 

MATERIAL BLESSINGSO our God, we thank you and praise your glorious name! 14But who am I, and who are my people, that we could give anything to you? Everything we have has come from you, and we give you only what you first gave us! I Chronicles 29

 

FOR ONE ANOTHERI always thank my God for you, I Corinthians 1:4

 

IN ALL CIRCUMSTANCES  Be thankful in all circumstances, for this is God’s will for you who belong to Christ Jesus. I Thessalonians 5

 

FOR SALVATIONThank God for this gift too wonderful for words! II Corinthians 9:15

 

FOR HIS GOODNESSGive thanks to the LORD, for He is good; His loving devotion endures forever.  1 Chronicles 16:34

 

FOR HIS MERCYHe does not treat us as our sins deserve, Psalm 103:10
