What Comes Out Of The Mouth

Exodus 17

I Samuel 15

II Samuel 1

My dear brothers and sisters, take note of this: Everyone should be quick to listen, slow to speak and slow to become angry, 20 because human anger does not produce the righteousness that God desires. 21 Therefore, get rid of all moral filth and the evil that is so prevalent and humbly accept the word planted in you, which can save you. 22 Do not merely listen to the word, and so deceive yourselves. Do what it says. 23 Anyone who listens to the word but does not do what it says is like someone who looks at his face in a mirror 24 and, after looking at himself, goes away and immediately forgets what he looks like. 25 But whoever looks intently into the perfect law that gives freedom, and continues in it—not forgetting what they have heard, but doing it—they will be blessed in what they do. 26 Those who consider themselves religious and yet do not keep a tight rein on their tongues deceive themselves, and their religion is worthless. 27 Religion that God our Father accepts as pure and faultless is this: to look after orphans and widows in their distress and to keep oneself from being polluted by the world. James 1

  1. “Be quick to hear” Listen more

You will say the wrong thing if you talk too much— so be sensible and watch what you say. Proverbs 10:19

Too much talk leads to sin. Be sensible and keep your mouth shut.

  1. “Be slow to speak” Talk less

Do not be quick with your mouth, do not be hasty in your heart to utter anything before God.

God is in heaven and you are on earth, so let your words be few. Ecc 5:2

Do you see someone who speaks in haste? There is more hope for a fool than for them. Proverbs 29:20

III. “Be slow to anger” Calm Down

The translators handle this last command in a variety of ways:

Whoever is slow to anger is better than the mighty, and he who rules his spirit than he who takes a city.

Proverbs 16:31

Controlling your temper is better than being a hero who captures a city.

My dear brothers and sisters, take note of this: Everyone should be quick to listen, slow to speak and slow to become angry,

Because human anger does not produce

the righteousness that God desires. Vs 20

21 Therefore, get rid of all moral filth and the evil that is so prevalent and humbly accept the word planted in you, which can save you.

22 Do not merely listen to the word, and so deceive yourselves. Do what it says.

“Therefore everyone who hears these words of mine and puts them into practice is like a wise man who built his house on the rock. 25 The rain came down, the streams rose, and the winds blew and beat against that house; yet it did not fall, because it had its foundation on the rock. 26 But everyone who hears these words of mine and does not put them into practice is like a foolish man who built his house on sand. 27 The rain came down, the streams rose, and the winds blew and beat against that house, and it fell with a great crash.” Matthew 7
