A MAN AFTER GOD’S OWN HEART

Then the people asked for a king, and he gave them Saul son of Kish, of the tribe of Benjamin, who ruled forty years. 22After removing Saul, he made David their king. God testified concerning him: ‘I have found David son of Jesse, a man after my own heart; he will do everything I want him to do.’ Acts 13

  1. David Was A Warrior.

David said to Saul, “Let no one lose heart on account of this Philistine; your servant will go and fight him.” 33Saul replied, “You are not able to go out against this Philistine and fight him; you are only a young man, and he has been a warrior from his youth.” 34But David said to Saul, “Your servant has been keeping his father’s sheep. When a lion or a bear came and carried off a sheep from the flock, 35I went after it, struck it and rescued the sheep from its mouth. When it turned on me, I seized it by its hair, struck it and killed it. 36Your servant has killed both the lion and the bear; this uncircumcised Philistine will be like one of them, because he has defied the armies of the living God. 37The Lord who rescued me from the paw of the lion and the paw of the bear will rescue me from the hand of this Philistine.”Saul said to David, “Go, and the Lord be with you.” I Sam 17

Therefore David enquired of the LORD,saying, Shall I go and smite these Philistines? And the LORD said unto David, Go, and smite the Philistines, and save Keilah. 1 Samuel 23:2

And David enquired at the LORD,saying, Shall I pursue after this troop? shall I overtake them? And he answered him, Pursue: for thou shalt surely overtake them, and without fail recover all. 1 Samuel 30:8

And it came to pass after this, that David enquiredof the LORD, saying, Shall I go up into any of the cities of Judah? And the LORD said unto him, Go up. And David said, Whither shall I go up? And he said, Unto Hebron. 2 Samuel 2:1

Be alert and of sober mind. Your enemy the devil prowls around like a roaring lionlooking for someone to devour. 9Resist him, standing firm in the faith, I Peter 5:8

Submit yourselves, then, to God. Resist the devil, and he will flee from you. 8Come near to God and he will come near to you. Wash your hands, you sinners, and purify your hearts, you double-minded. James 4:7

Do not let the sun go down while you are still angry, 27and do not give the devil a foothold. Ephesians 4:26

For though we live in the world, we do not wage war as the world does. 4The weapons we fight with are not the weapons of the world. On the contrary, they have divine power to demolish strongholds. 5We demolish arguments and every pretension that sets itself up against the knowledge of God, and we take captive every thought to make it obedient to Christ. 2 Corinthians 10:3-4

Then Peter opened his mouth, and said, Of a truth I perceive that God is no respecter of persons: Acts 10:34

Lord my God, I called to you for help, and you healed me. 3You, Lord, brought me up from the realm of the dead; you spared me from going down to the pit. Psalm 30

I will not die but live, and will proclaim what the Lord has done. Psalm 118

I have never seen the righteous forsaken or their children begging bread. Psalm 34

No harm will overtake you, no disaster will come near your tent. Psalm 91

“Who told you that? Genesis 3:11

“It is written:‘Worship the Lord your God and serve him only.” Luke 4:7-8

“It is said:‘Do not put the Lord your God to the test.” Luke 4

  1. David Was A Worshiper.

I will bless the LORD at all times; his praise shall continually be in my mouth. 2My soul makes its boast in the LORD; let the humble hear and be glad. 3Oh, magnify the LORD with me, and let us exalt his name together! Psalm 34

Enter his gates with thanksgiving, and his courts with praise! Give thanks to him; bless his name! Psalm 100:4

Be merciful to me, O God, be merciful to me! For my soul trusts in You; And in the shadow of Your wings I will make my refuge, Until these calamities have passed by.2I will cry out to God Most High, To God who performs all things for me. 3He shall send from heaven and save me; Psalm 57

They have prepared a net for my steps; My soul is bowed down; They have dug a pit before me; Vs 6

My heart is steadfast, O God, my heart is steadfast; I will sing and give praise. 8Awake, my glory! Awake, lute and harp! I will awaken the dawn. 9I will praise You, O Lord, among the peoples; I will sing to You among the nations. 10For Your mercy reaches unto the heavens, And Your truth unto the clouds. 11Be exalted, O God, above the heavens; Let Your glory be above all the earth. Psalm 57

“Is the child dead?” he asked. “Yes,” they replied, “he is dead.” 20Then David got up from the ground, washed himself, put on lotions, and changed his clothes. He went to the Tabernacle and worshiped the LORD. II Samuel 12

III. David Loved God’s Word

Show me the right path, O LORD; point out the road for me to follow. 5Lead me by your truth and teach me, for you are the God who saves me. All day long I put my hope in you. Psalm 25:4-5

Your wordis a lamp to my feet And a light to my path. Psalm 119:105

Thy wordhave I hid in mine heart, that I might not sin against thee. Psalm 119:11

Oh, how I love your law!I meditate on it all day long. Psalm 119:97

Blessed is the one who does not walk in step with the wicked or stand in the way that sinners take or sit in the company of mockers, 2but whose delight is in the law of the Lord, and who meditates on his law day and night.3That person is like a tree planted by streams of water, which yields its fruit in season and whose leaf does not wither— whatever they do prospers.Psalm 1
