ESSENTIAL

Now as they were traveling along, He entered a village; and a woman named Martha welcomed Him into her home.  And she had a sister called Mary, who was also seated at the Lord’s feet, and was listening to His word.  But Martha was distracted with all her preparations; and she came up to Him and said, “Lord, do You not care that my sister has left me to do the serving by myself? Then tell her to help me.”  But the Lord answered and said to her, “Martha, Martha, you are worried and distracted by many things; but only one thing is necessary; for Mary has chosen the good part, which shall not be taken away from her.” Luke 10:39-42

 My sheep listen to my voice; I know them, and they follow me. 28 I give them eternal life, and they shall never perish; no one will snatch them out of my hand. John 10

 Do not merely listen to the word, and so deceive yourselves. Do what it says. 23 Anyone who listens to the word but does not do what it says is like someone who looks at his face in a mirror 24 and, after looking at himself, goes away and immediately forgets what he looks like. 25 But whoever looks intently into the perfect law that gives freedom, and continues in it—not forgetting what they have heard, but doing it—they will be blessed in what they do.

I.  The Word of God is Essential to Answered Prayer.

If you remain in me and my words remain in you, ask whatever you wish, and it will be done for you.  John 15:7

II.  The Word of God is Essential for Victory over Sin.

 How can a young person stay on the path of purity?  By living according to your word.

 I have hidden your word in my heart that I might not sin against you. Psalm 119:11

III. The Word of God is Essential to Defeat Satan.

The devil took him to the peak of a very high mountain and showed him all the kingdoms of the world and their glory.  “I will give it all to you,” he said, “if you will kneel down and worship me.” “Get out of here, Satan,” Jesus told him. “For the Scriptures say, ‘You must worship the Lord your God and serve only him. ”Then the devil went away, and angels came and took care of Jesus. Matthew 4:8-11

IV.  The Word of God is Essential to Discover your Purpose in Life.

Sanctify them in the truth; Your word is truth. 18 Just as You sent Me into the world, I also sent them into the world. John 17:17-18

V.  The Word of God is Essential for Spiritual Growth.

Like newborn babies you should long for the pure milk of the word, so that by it you may be nurtured and grow in respect to salvation. I Peter 2:2

VI.  The Word of God is Essential because It Brings Success.

Keep this Book of the Law always on your lips; meditate on it day and night, so that you may be careful to do everything written in it. Then you will be prosperous and successful. Joshua 1:8

VII. The Word of God is Essential for Salvation.

“Everyone who calls on the name of the Lord will be saved.”

So faith comes from hearing, and hearing by the word of Christ. Romans 10:17

VIII. The Word of God is Essential for Life.

…give me life through your word. Psalm 119:25

IX.  The Word of God is Essential for Guidance and Warning.

The LORD says, “I will guide you along the best pathway for your life. Psalm 32:8

By them your servant is warned; in keeping them there is great reward. Psalm 19:11

X.  The Word of God is Essential for Health.

Some were fools through their sinful ways, and because of their iniquities suffered affliction; 18 they loathed any kind of food, and they drew near to the gates of death. 19 Then they cried to the LORD in their trouble, and he delivered them from their distress. 20 He sent out his word and healed them, and delivered them from their destruction. Psalm 107

His divine power has given us everything we need for a godly life through our knowledge of him who called us by his own glory and goodness. II Peter 1:3

Arise and be baptized, and wash away your sins, calling on the name of the Lord.’ Acts 22:16
