TRIALS AND TEMPTATIONS

James, a servant of God and of the Lord Jesus Christ, To the twelve tribes scattered among the nations: James 1:1

Consider it pure joy, my brothers and sisters, a whenever you face trials of many kinds, 3 because you know that the testing of your faith produces perseverance. 4 Let perseverance finish its work so that you may be mature and complete, not lacking anything. James 1

Blessed is the one who perseveres under trial because, having stood the test, that person will receive the crown of life that the Lord has promised to those who love him. 13 When tempted, no one should say, “God is tempting me.” For God cannot be tempted by evil, nor does he tempt anyone; 14 but each person is tempted when they are dragged away by their own evil desire and enticed. 15 Then, after desire has conceived, it gives birth to sin; and sin, when it is full-grown, gives birth to death. James 1

  1. There is a source of temptation.

13 When tempted, no one should say, “God is tempting me.” For God cannot be tempted by evil, nor does he tempt anyone;  Vs 13

Each person is tempted when they are dragged away by their own evil desire and enticed.  Vs 14

  1. There is a course of temptation.

Each person is tempted when they are dragged away by their own evil desireand enticed. 15Then, after desirehas conceived, it gives birth to sin;and sin, when it is full-grown, gives birth to death.

There are three kinds of death mentioned in the Bible.

  • There is Spiritual death, when you’re separated from God, and everyone is born separated from God. That’s why we must be Born Again.
  • There is Physical Deathwhere your soul and spirit separate from your body.
  • There is Eternal deathwhere are you are separated from God for eternity.

  1. There is a way out of temptation.

“Watch and pray so that you will not fall into temptation. The spirit is willing, but the flesh is weak.” Matthew 26:41

No temptation  has overtaken you except what is common to mankind. And God is faithful; he will not let you be tempted beyond what you can bear. But when you are tempted, he will also provide a way out so that you can endure it. I Corinthians  10:13

The heart is deceitful above all things, and desperately wicked: who can know it? Jeremiah 17:9

22 Do not merely listen to the word, and so deceive yourselves. Do what it says. James 1:22
