Exodus 6:1-9 BSB

·      Cruel bondage: 

·      Broken spirit: 

 When people live under cruel bondage and a broken spirit, it often shows up as:

• Cynicism — “I’ve heard this before; nothing will happen.”
• Silence — no prayers, no cries, because they’ve given up.
• Settling — accepting bondage as “normal.”
• Resistance to hope — because hope feels too painful if it fails again.

 “I will bring you out… I will free you… I will redeem you” (Exodus 6:6).

 Exodus 6:9 – “Moses reported this to the Israelites, but they did not listen to him because of their broken spirit and cruel bondage.”

Hope deferred makes the heart sick, but a longing fulfilled is a tree of life. Proverbs 13:12

1. God is Near

Exodus 6:5 You can be sure that I have heard the groans of the people of Israel, who are now slaves to the Egyptians.

(Psalm 34:18) “The Lord is near to the brokenhearted and saves the crushed in spirit.” 

Isaiah 57:15 NLT The high and lofty one who lives in eternity, the Holy One, says this: “I live in the high and holy place with those whose spirits are contrite and humble. I restore the crushed spirit of the humble and revive the courage of those with repentant hearts.

2.  Hope in God’s Promises

“A crushed spirit who can bear?” (Proverbs 18:14) — meaning, we can’t heal it ourselves.

Exodus 6:6–8 — “I will bring you out… I will free you… I will redeem you… I will take you as my own.”

Even when Israel couldn’t believe, God still acted.

Our unbelief doesn’t cancel His faithfulness (Romans 3:3–4).

(Romans 3:3–4). What if some were unfaithful? Will their unfaithfulness nullify God’s faithfulness? 4Not at all! Let God be true, and every human being a liar.  

Numbers 23:19 — “God is not a man, that He should lie… Has He said, and will He not do it?”

Romans 4:21 — “He was fully convinced that God was able to do what He had promised.”

Hebrews 10:23 — “He who promised is faithful.”

3.  Jesus our Healer

 In Luke 4:18, Jesus declares He came “to heal the brokenhearted, to proclaim liberty to the captives.”

Matthew 11:28-29 NLT Jesus said, “Come to me, all of you who are weary and carry heavy burdens, and I will give you rest. 29Take my yoke upon you. Let me teach you, because I am humble and gentle at heart, and you will find rest for your souls. 

John 10:10 I have come so that they may have life and have it in abundance.
