A Mother's Heart

May 13, 2018 Speaker: Ron Sebesta Series: Sunday Sermons

THE HEART OF A MOTHER

Can a mother forget the baby at her breast and have no compassion on the child she has borne?
Though she may forget, I will not forget you! 16 See, I have engraved you on the palms of my hands;
your walls are ever before me. Isaiah 49:15

“Suppose one of you has a hundred sheep and loses one of them. Doesn’t he leave the ninety-nine in the open country and go after the lost sheep until he finds it? Luke 15

Paul then stood up in the meeting of the Areopagus and said: “People of Athens! I see that in every way you are very religious. For as I walked around and looked carefully at your objects of worship, I even found an altar with this inscription: to an unknown god. So, you are ignorant of the very thing you worship—and this is what I am going to proclaim to you.  “The God who made the world and everything in it is the Lord of heaven and earth and does not live in temples built by human hands. And he is not served by human hands, as if he needed anything. Rather, he himself gives everyone life and breath and everything else. From one man he made all the nations, that they should inhabit the whole earth; and he marked out their appointed times in history and the boundaries of their lands.  God did this so that they would seek him and perhaps reach out for him and find him, though he is not far from any one of us. Acts 17

  1. Seek the Lord when your world falls apart.

Those who know your name trust in you, for you, Lord, have never forsaken those who seek you. Psalm 9:10

  1. Seek the Lord when you’re in need.

Taste and see that the Lord is good; blessed is the one who takes refuge in him. Fear the Lord, you his holy people, for those who fear him lack nothing. The lions may grow weak and hungry, but those who seek the Lord lack no good thing. Psalm 34:10

III. Seek the Lord while there is still time.

“My Spirit shall not strive with man forever, Genesis 6:3

Seek the Lord while he may be found; call on him while he is near. Let the wicked forsake their way and the unrighteous their thoughts. Let them turn to the Lord, and he will have mercy on them, and to our God, for he will freely pardon. Isaiah 55:6-7

  1. Seek the Lord when you need direction.

I know the thoughts that I think toward you, says the Lord, thoughts of peace and not of evil, to give you a future and a hope. 12 Then you will call upon Me and go and pray to Me, and I will listen to you. 13 And you will seek Me and find Me,when you search for Me with all your heart. Jeremiah 29:11

  1. Seek the Lord when you need success.

Uzziah sought God during the days of Zechariah, who taught him to fear God. And as long as the king sought guidance from the Lord, God gave him success. II Chronicles 26:5

God helped him in his wars against the Philistines, for he had become very powerful. Vs 9

He built towers in the wilderness and hewed many cisterns, for he had much livestock, both in the lowland and in the plain. Vs 10

He had an army ready for battle,he prepared shields, spears, helmets, body armor, bows and sling stones. Vs 11

He built structures on the walls of Jerusalem, designed by experts to protect those who shot arrows and hurled large stones from the towers and the corners of the wall. His fame spread far and wide, for the Lord gave him marvelous help, and he became very powerful. Vs 15

But when he had become powerful, he also became proud, which led to his downfall. Vs 16

  1. Seek the Lord’s Kingdom.

Do not worry, saying, ‘What shall we eat?’ or ‘What shall we drink?’ or ‘What shall we wear?’ For the pagans run after all these things, and your heavenly Father knows that you need them. But seek first his kingdom and his righteousness, and all these things will be given to you as well. Matthew 6
