THE WILL OF GOD NOTES

Then Jesus went with the disciples to a place called Gethsemane. He said to them, “Stay here while I go over there and pray.”37 He took Peter and Zebedee’s two sons with him. He was beginning to feel deep anguish. 38 Then he said to them, “My anguish is so great that I feel as if I’m dying. Wait here, and stay awake with me.”39 After walking a little farther, he quickly bowed with his face to the ground and prayed, “Father, if it’s possible, let this cup of suffering be taken away from me. But let your will be donerather than mine.” When he went back to the disciples, he found them asleep. He said to Peter, “Couldn’t you stay awake with me for one hour? 41 Stay awake, and pray that you won’t be tempted. You want to do what’s right, but you’re weak.” 42 Then he went away a second time and prayed, “Father, if this cup cannot be taken away unless I drink it, let your will be done.”43 He found them asleep again because they couldn’t keep their eyes open. 44 After leaving them again, he went away andprayed the same prayer a third time. Matthew 26

  1. My Will Be Done.

Now listen, you who say, “Today or tomorrow we will go to this or that city, spend a year there, carry on business and make money.” 14Why, you do not even know what will happen tomorrow. What is your life? You are a mist that appears for a little while and then vanishes. 15Instead, you ought to say, “If it is the Lord’s will,we will live and do this or that.”16As it is, you boast in your arrogant schemes. All such boasting is evil. 17If anyone, then, knows the good they ought to do and doesn’t do it, it is sin for them. James 4,

“How you are fallen from heaven, O Day Star, son of Dawn! How you are cut down to the ground,

you who laid the nations low! 13 You said in your heart, ‘I will ascend to heaven; above the stars of God

I willset my throne on high; I willsit on the mount of assembly in the far reaches of the north; 14 I willascend above the heights of the clouds; I willmake myself like the Most High.’ 15 But you are brought down to Sheol, Isaiah 14

  1. Your Will Be Done If…

And a ruler asked him, “Good Teacher, what must I do to inherit eternal life?” 19 And Jesus said to him, “Why do you call me good? No one is good except God alone. 20 You know the commandments: ‘Do not commit adultery, Do not murder, Do not steal, Do not bear false witness, Honor your father and mother.’” 21 And he said, “All these I have kept from my youth.” 22 When Jesus heard this, he said to him, “One thing you still lack. Sell all that you have and distribute to the poor, and you will have treasure in heaven; and come, follow me.” 23 But when he heard these things, he became very sad, for he was extremely rich.Luke 18:18–30.

5When Jesus got there, he looked up and said, “Zacchaeus, hurry down! I want to stay with you today.” 6Zacchaeus hurried down and gladly welcomed Jesus. 7Everyone who saw this started grumbling, “This man Zacchaeus is a sinner! And Jesus is going home to eat with him.” 8Later that day Zacchaeus stood up and said to the Lord, “I will give half of my property to the poor. And I will now pay back four times as much to everyone I have ever cheated.”9Jesus said to Zacchaeus, “Today you and your family have been saved, because you are a true son of Abraham. 10 The Son of Man came to look for and to save people who are lost.” Luke 19

III. Your Will Be Done.

Look carefully then how you walk, not as unwise but as wise, 16 making the best use of the time, because the days are evil. 17 Therefore do not be foolish, but understand what the will of the Lord is.Ephesians 5: 15-17

The world and everything in it that people desire is passing away; but those who do the will of Godlive forever. 1st John 2: 17

But I say, walk by the Spirit, and you will not gratify the desires of the flesh. 17 For the desires of the flesh are against the Spirit, and the desires of the Spirit are against the flesh, for these are opposed to each other, to keep you from doing the things you want to do. 18 But if you are led by the Spirit, you are not under the law. 19 Now the works of the flesh are evident: sexual immorality, impurity, sensuality, 20 idolatry, sorcery, enmity, strife, jealousy, fits of anger, rivalries, dissensions, divisions, 21 envy, drunkenness, orgies, and things like these. I warn you, as I warned you before, that those who do such things will not inherit the kingdom of God. 22 But the fruit of the Spirit is love, joy, peace, patience, kindness, goodness, faithfulness, 23 gentleness, self-control; against such things there is no law. Galatians 5

I have been crucifiedwith Christ. It is no longer I who live, but Christ who lives in me. And the life I now live in the flesh I live by faith in the Son of God, who loved me and gave himself for me. Galatians 2: 20

And those who belong to Christ Jesus have crucified the fleshwith its passions and desires. Gal 5:24

Be it from me to boast except in the cross of our Lord Jesus Christ, by which the world has been crucified to me,and I to the world. Galatians 6:14

Those who know your name trust in you, for you, LORD, have never forsaken those who seek you. Psalm 9: 10

Then war broke out in heaven. Michael and his angels fought against the dragon, who fought back with his angels; 8but the dragon was defeated, and he and his angels were not allowed to stay in heaven any longer. 9 The huge dragon was thrown out—that ancient serpent, named the Devil, or Satan, that deceived the whole world. He was thrown down to earth, and all his angels with him. 10 Then I heard a loud voice in heaven saying, “Now God's salvation has come! Now God has shown his power as King! Now his Messiah has shown his authority! For the one who stood before our God and accused believers day and night has been thrown out of heaven. They won the victory over him by the blood of the Lamb and by the truth which they proclaimed; and they were willingto give up their lives and die. Rev 12.

"Come out from them and be separate, says the Lord. Touch no unclean thing, and I will receive you." II Corinthians 6: 17

Not everyone who calls out to me, ‘Lord! Lord!’ will enter the Kingdom of Heaven. Only those who actually do the will of my Fatherin heaven will enter. 22On judgment day many will say to me, ‘Lord! Lord! We prophesied in your name and cast out demons in your name and performed many miracles in your name.’ 23But I will reply, ‘I never knew you. Get away from me, you who break God’s laws.’ Matt 7.

Search me, O God, and know my heart; test me and know my anxious thoughts. 24Point out anything in me that offends you, and lead me along the path of everlasting life. Psalm 139:23-24
