THE POWER OF THE HOLY SPIRIT PT III

GIFTS

1.The Gift of Eternal Life

For the wages of sin is death, but the gift of God is eternal life in Christ Jesus our Lord. Romans 6:23

For it is by grace you have been saved, through faith—and this is not from yourselves, it is the gift of God— 9 not by works, so that no one can boast. Ephesians 2:8

  1. The Gift of the Holy Spirit

“Do not leave Jerusalem, but wait for the gift my Father promisedwhich you have heard me speak about. 5 For John baptized with a water, but in a few days you will be baptized with the Holy Spirit.” Acts 1

So I say to you: Ask and it will be given to you; seek and you will find; knock and the door will be opened to you. 10 For everyone who asks receives; the one who seeks finds; and to the one who knocks, the door will be opened.11 “Which of you fathers, if your son asks for f a fish, will give him a snake instead? 12 Or if he asks for an egg, will give him a scorpion? 13 If you then, though youare evil, know how to give good gifts to your children, how much more will your Father in heaven give the Holy Spirit to those who ask him!” Luke 11

  1. The Individual Gifts.

Now, dear brothers and sisters, a regarding your question about the special abilities the Spirit gives us. I don’t want you to misunderstand this. I Corinthians 12:1

A spiritual gift is given to each of us so we can help each other. I Corinthians 12:7

BAPTISMS

  1. Baptism of Water

And Jesus came and spoke to them, saying, “All authority has been given to Me in heaven and on earth. 19Go therefore and make disciples of all the nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit, 20 teaching them to observe all things that I have commanded you; and lo, I am with you always, even to the end of the age.” Amen Matthew 28

Now an angel of the Lord spoke to Philip, saying, “Arise and go toward the south along the road which goes down from Jerusalem to Gaza.” This is desert. 27 So he arose and went. And behold, a man of Ethiopia, a eunuch of great authority under Candace the queen of the Ethiopians, who had charge of all her treasury, and had come to Jerusalem to worship, 28 was returning. And sitting in his chariot, he was reading Isaiah the prophet.  29 Then the Spirit said to Philip, “Go near and overtake this chariot.” 30 So Philip ran to him, and heard him reading the prophet Isaiah, and said, “Do you understand what you are reading? 31 And he said, “How can I, unless someone guides me?” And he asked Philip to come up and sit with him. 32 The place in the Scripture which he read was this:

“He was led as a sheep to the slaughter;  And as a lamb before its shearer is silent, So He opened not His mouth. 33I n His humiliation His justice was taken away, 34 So the eunuch answered Philip and said, who is he talking about?35 Then Philip opened his mouth, and beginning at this Scripture, preached Jesus to him.36 Now as they went down the road, they came to some water. And the eunuch said, “See, here is water. What hinders me from being baptized?” 37 Then Philip said, “If you believe with all your heart, you may.” And he answered and said, “I believe that Jesus Christ is the Son of God.”

38 So he commanded the chariot to stand still. And both Philip and the eunuch went down into the water, and he baptized him. 39 Now when they came up out of the water, the Spirit of the Lord caught Philip away, so that the eunuch saw him no more; and he went on his way rejoicing.

  1. Baptism of the Holy Spirit.

“I baptize you with water for repentance. But after me comes one is more powerful than I, whose sandals I am not worthy to carry. He will baptize you with the Holy Spirit and fire.” Matthew 3:11,

  1. Baptized into the Body of Christ.

For just as the body is one and yet has many parts, and all the parts of the body, though they are many, are one body, so also is Christ. 13 For by one Spirit we were all baptized into one body, I Corinthians 12
