I have chosen him to teach his family to obey me forever and to do what is right and fair. If they do, I will give Abraham many descendants, just as I promised.” Genesis 18:19

Not everyone who says to me, ‘Lord, Lord,’ will enter the kingdom of heaven, but only the one who does the will of my Father who is in heaven. 22Many will say to me on that day, ‘Lord, Lord, did we not prophesy in your name and in your name drive out demons and in your name perform many miracles?’ 23Then I will tell them plainly, ‘I never knew you. Away from me, you evildoers!’

For it is not the hearers of the law who are righteous before God, but the doers of the law who will be justified. Romans 2:13

1. A GOOD FATHER DEVOTES HIS CHILDREN TO THE LORD

“Now therefore fear the LORD and serve him in sincerity and in faithfulness. Put away the gods that your fathers served beyond the River and in Egypt, and serve the LORD. 15And if it is evil in your eyes to serve the LORD, choose this day whom you will serve, whether the gods your fathers served in the region beyond the River, or the gods of the Amorites in whose land you dwell. But as for me and my house, we will serve the LORD.” Joshua 24

2. A GOOD FATHER DISCIPLINES HIS CHILDREN.

My son, do not despise the Lord's discipline or be weary of his reproof, for the Lord reproves him whom he loves, as a father the son in whom he delights. Proverbs 3:11-12

Fathers, do not provoke your children to anger, but bring them up in the discipline and instruction of the Lord. Ephesians 6:4

A wise child accepts a parent’s discipline; a mocker refuses to listen to correction. Proverbs 13:1

3. A GOOD FATHER DEMONSTRATES A GODLY LIFE.

Follow God’s example, therefore, as dearly loved children and walk in the way of love, just as Christ loved us and gave himself up for us… Ephesians 5:1

Be followers of me, even as I also am of Christ. I Cor 11:1

Be imitators of me,

GOOD FATHER DELIGHTS IN HIS CHILDREN.

The LORD’s delight is in those who fear him, those who put their hope in his unfailing love. Psalm 147:11

For the LORD delights in his people; Psalm 149:4

He brought me out into a broad place; he rescued me, because he delighted in me. Psalm 18:19

There was a man named Jabez who was more honorable than any of his brothers. His mother named him Jabez because his birth had been so painful. 10He was the one who prayed to the God of Israel, “Oh, that you would bless me and expand my territory! Please be with me in all that I do, and keep me from all trouble and pain!” And God granted him his request. I Chronicles 4:10

A Good Father is a Provider.

A good man leaves an inheritance to his children’s children, Proverbs 13:22

A Good Father is a Protector

But know this, that if the master of the house had known in what part of the night the thief was coming, he would have stayed awakeand would not have let his house be broken into. Matthew 24:43

“The kingdom of heaven may be compared to a man who sowed good seed in his field. 25“But while men were sleeping, his enemy cameand sowed tares also among the wheat, and went away. Matthew 13:25

A Good Father is a Priest.

Train up a child in the way he should go; even when he is old he will not depart from it. Proverbs 22:6
